The developers of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre have officially announced that the game will no longer receive any new content or support, as they believe the project is now complete.
A Final Chapter for the Horror Multiplayer Title
Originally released in August 2023 for PC and both last-gen and current-gen consoles, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a multiplayer asymmetrical horror game. In each match, four victims must try to escape from three members of the Sawyer family, inspired by the iconic 1974 horror film.
Studio Declares the Game “Fully Complete”
In a recent statement, Gun Interactive said it considers the game to be “fully completed” and is now shifting its focus to other projects.
“We are proud of what we created,” the studio stated, “and we’re happy to have reached a point where we feel The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has fulfilled its potential. From the start, our vision was clear — to offer an innovative experience in the asymmetrical horror genre, introduce this iconic film to a new generation, and immerse players in the beautifully terrifying world of Muerto County. We believe we’ve achieved that.”
No More DLC or Bug Fixes After May Update
With the final content update rolling out in May, the game will no longer receive DLC, balance patches, or bug fixes. However, the team mentioned that a few final updates will be released to support the transition to peer-to-peer matchmaking.
The Game Will Remain Playable and Available
Despite ending development support, Gun Interactive clarified that the game will not be removed from digital stores. It will remain fully playable, but the live development cycle has officially ended.
CEO Reflects on Game Pass Launch
Back in August 2023, Wes Keltner, CEO and studio head, described the decision to launch the game on Xbox Game Pass as a “clear and obvious choice.” He explained that reaching millions of subscribers on day one was a huge opportunity they didn’t want to miss.
A Solid Player Base
As of March 2024, it was announced that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre had reached an impressive 5.6 million players. Even though updates are ending, the game’s community and legacy remain strong.
