SEGA has officially announced that the global release of the highly anticipated game Sonic Rumble, originally set for May, has once again been postponed.
The 32-player online multiplayer title was scheduled to launch on May 8 for both mobile and PC platforms. However, the game now has no confirmed release date.
Why the Delay? More Time Needed for New Features
Sonic Rumble had previously gone live in select regions as a limited test release. According to the development team, the main reason for this delay is the need for more time to implement several new gameplay features, including:
- Crews Mode (team-based gameplay)
- Rumble Ranking (competitive leaderboard)
- Skills System (unique player abilities)
In their official statement, the developers said:
“With over 1.4 million pre-registrations, our responsibility to deliver a high-quality, lasting experience has grown. We want to create a game that remains fun and engaging for months and even years. That’s why we’ve made the decision to delay the global launch of Sonic Rumble.”
They also assured fans that new updates will be shared through social media channels as the revised release date approaches.
No Gacha, No Pay-to-Win—A Fair Experience
One of the most interesting things about Sonic Rumble is that it will not include any gacha systems or pay-to-win mechanics. This decision was based on feedback from Western players, who prefer games without random or luck-based monetization.
Instead, the game will feature a Season Pass system that includes:
- Character skins
- Emotes
- Cosmetic items, all of which can be purchased through the Ring Shop.
A Disappointing Delay—but for the Right Reasons
While this delay may be disappointing news for fans, it’s clear that the developers are working hard to deliver a fun, fair, and long-lasting experience. Their commitment to quality and fair gameplay is a promising sign for what could become a major hit in the Sonic franchise.
