Ubisoft is currently working on a new turn-based tactical game set in the popular and well-known Rainbow Six universe.
This new game, which doesn’t have an official name yet, will keep the spirit of the Rainbow Six Siege series but will feature a completely different style of gameplay.
Top-Down Tactical Gameplay Inspired by XCOM
According to reports, the game will use a top-down camera view, similar to what we’ve seen in games like XCOM and Diablo 4. In this title, players will take control of Rainbow Six Siege operators and go on various missions, such as hostage rescue, building raids, and enemy zone clear-outs, using a mix of unique skills and careful planning.
While the gameplay shares some similarities with Rainbow Six Siege, this time the focus is on turn-based combat and strategic decision-making. Choosing the right operators based on their special abilities will be a key part of the experience.
Playtime and Platforms
The estimated playtime is around 25 to 30 hours, although that may change depending on the player’s skill level or choices like skipping cutscenes or side missions.
Ubisoft plans to release the game on next-gen consoles, including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and possibly the Nintendo Switch 2. There’s no official release date yet, but it’s expected to launch sometime in the next year or two.
Tencent’s Possible Involvement
Although Ubisoft’s partnership with Tencent is currently unclear, some sources suggest that the project might continue under the leadership of a new studio formed with Tencent.
A New Life for the Rainbow Six Franchise?
The massive success of Rainbow Six Siege, which now has over 50 million active players worldwide, has pushed Ubisoft to further expand the Rainbow Six universe. While the most recent title, Rainbow Six Extraction, didn’t meet expectations from players or Ubisoft, this upcoming project might bring new energy and excitement to the franchise.
