The platform fighter MultiVersus has officially reached the end of its journey. As of today, the game’s online servers have been shut down, and it is no longer accessible online. Published by Warner Bros. Games, MultiVersus was initially launched as a competitor to Super Smash Bros. and gained considerable attention upon release.
Back in February, the publisher announced that Season 5 would be the final season, running from February 5 to May 30. That timeline has now concluded.
Offline Mode Still Available for Some Players
As of 7:30 PM Iran time, the game was taken offline and removed from digital storefronts including the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. While online play is no longer available, offline mode is still accessible—but only for players who have logged in at least once since February 4.
Warner confirmed that players who have logged in recently will receive a local save file tied to their PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games account. This save file enables access to offline play with all previously purchased or unlocked content.
No Refunds for Real Money Purchases
Since the shutdown was announced, in-game transactions were disabled. However, players were able to spend any remaining Gleamium or character tokens on content up until the servers went offline. Warner Bros. also clarified that no refunds will be issued for items purchased with real money.
A Brief Yet Tumultuous Life Cycle
This marks the second shutdown for MultiVersus. The game initially launched in July 2022 and saw immediate success, peaking at 153,433 concurrent players on Steam. However, player interest rapidly declined, and the game was taken offline for nearly a year.
MultiVersus made a comeback in May 2024, reaching 114,000 concurrent players at its peak. Unfortunately, that resurgence didn’t last, and after another drop in player activity, the game has now been permanently shut down.
