To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the first Metro game, 4A Games has released new details about the next installment in the franchise.

The Ukrainian studio confirmed that after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, they decided to rewrite the game’s story to deliver a darker and more impactful experience.

A Darker and More Powerful Narrative

In a statement published on 4A Games’ official website, the team explained that the difficult experiences of recent years in Ukraine have inspired them to rewrite the new Metro game’s story.

“Just as art has become reality for many of our developers in Ukraine, we have used these real-life experiences to craft an even darker narrative. The themes that were always present in Metro are now more relevant and vital than ever before.”

    Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Continued Involvement

Dmitry Glukhovsky, the author of the Metro novels, remains a key collaborator on the project.

4A Games confirmed that Glukhovsky has opposed the war in Ukraine since the beginning, a stance that led to his conviction in absentia in Russia. The studio expressed their support in the statement:

“We are proud to have him as both a friend and collaborator in telling this new chapter of Metro.”

Stronger Anti-War, Political, and Social Themes

The Metro series has always explored anti-war, political, and social themes, and the next game will continue in the same direction.

However, the studio emphasized that this game will not just be a sequel to previous stories, but it will also be more deeply connected to the realities of today’s world.

4A Games Is Working on Two Major Projects

4A Games confirmed that they are currently working on two projects:

    1. The next Metro game
    2. A brand-new IP

However, the development process has been extremely challenging due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The team continues their work amid missile attacks, air raid sirens, and crisis conditions.

Given these difficulties, the studio stated that they are not yet ready to officially reveal the new game, adding:

“The game will be revealed when it is ready, and we can’t wait for the moment we get to share it with you.”

This suggests that the official announcement for the next Metro game may still be a long way off.

Special Events and Content Planned for 2025

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Metro series, 4A Games plans to release:

    • Special events
    • Discounts
    • Exclusive anniversary content

These will be shared throughout 2025 on their social media channels.

Fans can look forward to new updates and more insights into the world of Metro in the coming year.
