The developers of Marathon have confirmed that players will not need a PSN account to play the game on PC or Xbox.
Many players were concerned that, since Marathon is a Sony-backed project, it might require a PSN account even on non-PlayStation platforms.
However, according to a report by Eurogamer, Bungie addressed this concern in an official message on the game’s Discord channel. The developers clearly stated:
“Marathon does not require a PlayStation account for players on PC or Xbox.”

Some earlier PlayStation-published games on PC did require a PSN account. Many may remember the backlash and review bombing of Helldivers 2, which launched on Steam in early 2024.
Since then, Sony has realized that players on other platforms don’t want to be forced into using a PSN account. They made registration optional and even tried to offer incentives for their recent titles like The Last of Us Part II Remastered and God of War Ragnarök. Now, with the latest confirmation, Marathon has officially joined the list of games that don’t require a PSN account.
Marathon has mostly stayed under the radar since it was first announced, but players will finally get more information on April 12 (Farvardin 23). Bungie has announced a gameplay showcase for this PvP extraction shooter is on the way.
