The recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event brought a wave of exciting announcements for Nintendo’s upcoming console. While Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza stole the spotlight with their colorful reveals, one of the most notable surprises was the strong third-party support that Nintendo seems to be securing this generation.

Among the big names, FromSoftware revealed not only a port of Elden Ring, but also a brand-new exclusive title called The Duskbloods, built specifically for Switch 2. However, perhaps the most unexpected moment came from Square Enix, who finally announced that the Final Fantasy VII Remake would no longer be a PlayStation exclusive. The first part of the remake project is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2.

Will FF7 Rebirth and Part 3 Come to Switch 2 Too?

Naturally, the big question on fans’ minds is: Will Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, released in 2024, and the yet-to-be-announced Part 3 of the remake series also make their way to Nintendo’s new system?

Square Enix seems open to the idea. During the reveal of the ported remake, Naoki Hamaguchi, one of the key figures behind the project, told fans to “look forward to the continued development of the FF7 remake series.”

Now, in the latest episode of Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice, Hamaguchi gave fans even more reason to be hopeful. He shared his initial impressions of the Nintendo Switch 2, saying he was impressed by the hardware and the console’s potential.

“I felt that this system has enough power to run the Final Fantasy VII remake series,” Hamaguchi stated confidently.

Hopeful Signs for Final Fantasy Fans

While many had already assumed that FF7 Rebirth would eventually come to Switch 2, having this semi-official reassurance is definitely a positive sign. Of course, nothing is fully confirmed yet, and it’s always smart to wait and see how development unfolds.

But even if the game doesn’t make its way to Nintendo’s console, fans still have options — including playing it on platforms like the Steam Deck.
