Among Us 3D attempts to bring the beloved social deduction game into a new dimension—literally. With a first-person perspective, Proximity Voice Chat, and 3D reimaginings of classic tasks, this version feels like an exciting evolution at first glance. But does it live up to the hype, or does it fall victim to its own ambitions?

    Let’s break it down.

Proximity Voice Chat: Suspicion You Can Hear

One of the most anticipated features in Among Us 3D is Proximity Voice Chat. Players can now hear others speak based on their physical distance in-game, which completely transforms the nature of interactions.

Gone are the days of pure text-based accusations—now, whispered conversations in narrow hallways or panicked shouts in the distance heighten the tension and immersion. It makes detecting who’s friend or foe even harder—but also more thrilling. You may find yourself analyzing tone, fear in someone’s voice, or the way they hesitate before speaking. And when you sense danger? Run.

    Emergency Meetings, Reimagined

Emergency meetings in Among Us 3D no longer happen through typing alone. Instead, players gather in first-person and speak live, pointing fingers quite literally. This setting allows for deeper reading of body language, vocal tone, and movement—elements that dramatically change the dynamics of accusation and defense.

Tasks and Gameplay Mechanics: Familiar, Yet Refreshed

While many of the tasks remain similar in function—such as swiping ID cards or emptying garbage—the shift to 3D makes them feel more tactile and time-consuming. Tasks now require physical interaction, adding a layer of realism that fans may enjoy—or find frustrating.

There are also new tasks built specifically for 3D, like unclogging toilets with a plunger. These creative additions inject some humor into the experience, and give the game a more lived-in feel.

For impostors, the 3D environment opens up new strategic opportunities. With more hiding spots for bodies, first-person stealth kills, and quieter getaways, sabotage has never felt so cinematic.

But It’s Not All Sweet Sabotage…

Despite the exciting innovations, Among Us 3D falls short in a few key areas:

     Limited Content

The biggest disappointment? Only one playable map. For a game that thrives on unpredictability and social chaos, limiting the setting makes things feel repetitive quickly. After a few rounds, the novelty starts to wear thin.

     Camera and Movement Frustrations

Navigating tight corridors in first-person isn’t always smooth. Tasks that require you to interact with specific objects can become frustrating due to awkward camera angles. Missing a vital moment—like catching a killer in action—because of poor visibility is enough to ruin a round and possibly the match.

     Proximity Voice Limitations

While proximity chat is a standout feature, it also introduces chaos and overlap when players talk over each other. If a lobby is full of loud or impatient players, the experience can become overwhelming and confusing—diluting the strategic aspect of the game.

    Is It Worth Buying?

So, should you spend money on Among Us 3D?

That depends. The game retains the charm of the original, and offers a bold, immersive spin on a proven formula. But its content limitations, control issues, and rough edges may frustrate those expecting a polished next-gen upgrade.

If you’re a diehard Among Us fan looking for a new perspective on a game you love, it’s worth trying. The proximity chat alone can make for some memorable and hilarious moments. But if you’re looking for a long-lasting experience with variety and polish, you might want to wait for future updates—or look elsewhere.

Final Verdict: A Bold Leap That’s Not Quite There Yet

Among Us 3D is ambitious and occasionally brilliant. Its real-time voice interactions, 3D tasks, and immersive design breathe new life into a beloved game. But behind these strengths lie content gaps, technical quirks, and a few missed opportunities.

For now, it’s a refreshing yet incomplete addition to the franchise—one that could evolve into something great with more support and updates.
