In the latest gaming news, it was revealed that Guillaume Provost, CEO and Head of Compulsion Games, announced in an interview with Game Rant that South of Midnight has reached over one million players in less than a month. Provost stated, “I can confidently say that South of Midnight has attracted more than one million players since its release.”
A Unique Cultural Setting That Resonates
Provost believes that South American cultural themes have been underrepresented in video games. He explained, “When we first started talking about the game, I felt that this particular region hadn’t received enough attention in video games. Sure, there are great examples like Kentucky Route Zero or Red Dead Redemption, but no one has really explored the mythology of the region or the elements that make its culture iconic.”
A Different Role Within the Xbox Studio Family
He further emphasized that Compulsion Games isn’t focused on producing blockbuster franchises like Call of Duty, but rather on delivering distinctive experiences for underserved audiences. “Our role in the Xbox studio family is not to create massive hits like Call of Duty, but to build games that bring something different to the table and speak to audiences who haven’t been targeted enough in the past,” Provost explained.
Looking Ahead: Diversity, Reach, and Vision
“I’m excited to play a role in fulfilling this mission and helping Compulsion Games move into the future. Right now, I can’t say exactly what kinds of players, experiences, or regions we’ll represent next,” he added. “But I believe becoming a brand that appeals to people from all over the world is a major goal for Xbox.”
